Quarantine Measures for People Entering Thailand

Starting from July 1, 2020, together with Thai nationals, several additional types of foreigners are allowed to enter Thailand. The quarantine measures for people entering Thailand are different and depend on the type of traveler. Who can enter Thailand? Where to quarantine in Thailand? Let’s see!

Who can enter Thailand?

The entry into Thailand of the persons of any of the following types is permitted:

(1) Thai nationals

(2) Persons with exemption or persons being considered, permitted or invited by the Prime Minister, or the head of responsible persons accountable for resolving state of emergency issues to enter Thailand, pertaining to necessity. Such consideration, permission or invitation may be subject to specified conditions and time limits.

(3) Persons on diplomatic or consular missions or under International organizations, or representatives of foreign government performing their duties in Thailand, or persons of other international agencies as permitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pertaining to necessity, including their spouse, parents, or children.

(4) Carriers of necessary goods, subject to immediate return after completion.

(5) Crew members who are required to travel into Thailand on a mission, and have a specified date and time for return.

(6) Non-Thai nationals who are a spouse, parents, or children of a Thai national.

(7) Non-Thai nationals who hold a valid certificate of permanent residency in Thailand, or permission to take up residence in Thailand.

(8) Non-Thai nationals who have work permit or have been granted permission from government agencies to work in Thailand, including their spouse or children.

(9) Non-Thai nationals who are students of educational institutions approved by Thai authorities, including the parents or guardians of the students, except for students of non-formal educational institutions under the law on Private schools and of other similar private educational institutions.

(10) Non-Thai nationals who are in need of medical treatment in Thailand, and their attendants. However, this shall not include medical treatment for COVID-19.

(11) Non-Thai nationals who are permitted to enter Thailand under a special arrangement with a foreign country.

The type of mandatory quarantine in Thailand depends on the type of person entering the country.

Quarantine Measures for People Entering Thailand

Current quarantine measures for people entering Thailand are the following.

1. Thai nationals

Thai nationals can choose from staying at State Quarantine (SQ), Local Quarantine (LQ) or Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ). The duration of quarantine is 14 days. Staying at one of Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) hotels is also allowed for Thai nationals.

2. Persons with exemption

Persons with exemption or persons being considered, permitted or invited by the Prime Minister, or the head of responsible persons accountable for resolving state of emergency issues to enter Thailand, do not need to quarantine but they must comply with the requirements of Close Observation (CO).

3. Individuals on diplomatic missions

Persons on diplomatic or consular missions or under International organizations, or representatives of foreign government performing their duties in Thailand, or persons of other international agencies as permitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pertaining to necessity, including their spouse, parents, or children should self-quarantine at home.

4. Carriers of necessary goods

Carriers of necessary goods do not need to quarantine in Thailand but they must immediate return after completion of their task.

5. Crew members

Crew members who are required to travel into Thailand on a mission, and have a specified date and time for return must stay in Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ). For choosing the best place to quarantine for 14 days, find the list of quarantine hotels in Thailand.

6. Foreigners who are family members of Thai national

Non-Thai nationals who are a spouse, parents, or children of a Thai national must stay for 14 days in Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ). Find the list of Alternative State Quarantine hotels in Thailand.

7. Foreigners who hold a valid certificate of residence

Non-Thai nationals who hold a valid certificate of permanent residency in Thailand, or permission to take up residence in Thailand, must quarantine for 14 days at one of Alternative State Quarantine hotels in Thailand.

8. Foreigners who hold a valid work permit

Non-Thai nationals who have work permit or have been granted permission from government agencies to work in Thailand, including their spouse or children, can enter Thailand and are subject to 14 days in Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ).

9. Foreigners who are students in educational institutions approved by Thai authority

Non-Thai nationals who are students of educational institutions approved by Thai authorities, including the parents or guardians of the students, can quarantine at Organizational Quarantine (OQ) if such is provided or spend 14 days of quarantine at one of ASQ hotels for an Alternative State Quarantine.

10. Foreigners who are in need of medical treatment in Thailand

Non-Thai nationals who are in need of medical treatment in Thailand and their attendants can enter Thailand and must stay at Hospital Quarantine (HQ) or Alternative Hospital Quarantine (AHQ). Contact you hospital for more details about quarantine services provided.

Pay attention that foreigners seeking medical treatment for COVID-19 are not allowed entering Thailand.

11. Foreigners who are permitted to enter Thailand under a special arrangement

Non-Thai nationals who are permitted to enter Thailand under a special arrangement with a foreign country must stay at Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) or to visit country being at Close Observation (CO). The exact measures will depend on the arrangement.
