Find detailed information about the Bangkok metro fare changes that were implemented from 1 December 2025.

New Bangkok Metro Fare Policy

Starting from 1 December 2025, the new policy called "40 THB all-day electric trains" has been introduced on the SRT Red Line and MRT Purple Line.

When paying the fare with EMV contactless cards on these Bangkok metro lines, the general daily fare of is applied. The policy is effective from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026 and sets the general fare as follows:

  • 40 THB for the general public
  • 30 THB for students (users of special student EMV cards)

Note that the policy is currently not applied to other Bangkok metro lines, such as the MRT Blue Line, BTS Green Line, Airport Rail Link, and others.

Conditions for the All-Day Fare on Bangkok Metro Lines

The all-day fare is calculated for travel on the same day, from opening until closing.

Fares will be charged the normal fare based on the passenger's actual travel. Fares exceeding the flat fare (40 THB or 30 THB) will be refunded to the card used for travel within 1-3 business days.

If the fare is lower than the general fare (40 THB or 30 THB), the actual fare will be collected.

To calculate the all-day flat fare, the same EMV contactless card must be used, and complete tap-in and tap-out information must be provided.

If the card balance is insufficient to cover the same-day travel fare, it will not be counted towards the calculation of the eligibility.

If the trip has incomplete tap-in and tap-out information, the trip will be charged at the highest fare on the line.

Eligible Bangkok Metro Card Options

Bangkok metro cards participating in the measure include:

  • EMV contactless credit, debit, and prepaid cards
  • Mangmoom EMV cards (general public and students)
  • MRT EMV cards (general public and students)

The SRT Red Line accepts EMV contactless cards from all banks.

However, the MRT Purple Line does not accept all cards. While credit cards from all banks are accepted, debit and prepaid cards need to be issued by the banks supported by the MRT.

Therefore, passengers traveling on the MRT Purple Line should check if their EMV cards are supported before using the service.

Normal fares on the SRT Red Line are from 12 THB to 42 THB per trip, depending on the distance.

On the MRT Purple Line, normal fares are from 14 THB to 42 THB per journey.
