Hue is a city in Vietnam that is one of the most popular destinations for travelers visiting the central part of the country. It is possible to use US Dollars for payments in Vietnam quite often but paying for goods and services in local currency (Vietnamese Dong – VND) normally saves you lots of money. If you are looking for the best currency exchange rate in Hue City, our experience with money exchange in the imperial city will be helpful.
Hue Money Changers
Finding a place to exchange your money in Hue isn’t a problem as most of hotels and tour companies are ready to help you in this case. However, exchange rate you will get there will be by far not the best in town.
Best Bank in Hue
Another option for currency exchange in Hue is the banks. Branches of Vietnamese banks can be found around the city but most of them exchange only US Dollars. One of the best banks in Hue for exchanging foreign currency is EximBank.
EximBank Hue branch is located on the opposite side of the road from Dong Ba Market (Chợ Đông Ba) that is a popular shopping spot for locals and tourists.

Best Money Changer in Hue
Gold shops are another popular option for exchanging money in Vietnam as they are well known for offering the best exchange rates in most cases. The same can be said about Hue as the best money changer in Hue we could find was a gold shop called Phú Cường.
Phú Cường gold shop is located on the same street as the abovementioned branch of EximBank and you just need to walk for less than 100 meters on the same side of the road for finding it. The money changer is located nearby the famous bakery Bao Thanh so at least one of them you should easily notice when passing by.
Phú Cường address: 263 Trần Hưng Đạo, Phú Hoà, Tp. Huế, Huế
Currency exchange rates in Hue
When looking for the best currency exchange rate in Hue City, we’ve visited EximBank first. There was a digital board displaying currency exchange rates at the bank and Euro exchange rate here looked really not bad, especially when compared to the rate offered by tour companies in the area we were staying at.
However, the exchange rates displayed on the board appeared to be not relevant (strange, isn’t it?) and the staff presented us the printed paper with current exchange rates. To our unpleasant surprise, Euro exchange rate here was lower than the one on the digital board. Exchange rates of some other currencies on the paper were the same or even higher than on the board so the problem seems to be an inability to update the board on time.
Another thing you should know is that EximBank in Hue is giving slightly lower exchange rates than you can find on the official website of the bank so the rates offered by EximBank at Ho Chi Minh Airport are better than in Hue.
How good or bad currency exchange rates in Hue EximBank were during our visit? Let’s compare them to the mid-market rate of foreign currencies against Vietnamese Dong.
USD exchange rate
The mid-market USD exchange rate at the time of our visit in Hue was 23,203 VND for 1 US Dollar, so the rate offered by EximBank (23,100 VND/USD) was by 103 VND or by about 0.44% lower than the mid-market exchange rate. It’s definitely one of the best exchange deals you can get in Hue even if you still can get a bit better.
Be noted that the best exchange rate is offered only for large US Dollar notes (50 – 100 USD).
EUR exchange rate
The mid-market EUR exchange rate during our visit was 25,543 VND for 1 Euro, so the exchange rate offered at the bank in Hue (25,225 VND/EUR) was by 318 VND or by about 1.2% lower than the mid-market rate. For every 100 Euro exchanged here you’re losing 1.2 EUR.
Euro exchange rate was worse than USD exchange rate but still much better than you can expect to get back in Europe.
GBP exchange rate
The mid-market GBP exchange rate at the time was 29,823 VND for 1 British Pound, so the exchange rate offered by EximBank (29,210 VND/GBP) was by 613 VND or by about 2.1% lower than the mid-market exchange rate.
AUD exchange rate
The mid-market AUD exchange rate during our visit was 15,859 VND for 1 Australian Dollar, so the exchange rate offered by the bank in Hue (15,645 VND/AUD) was by 214 VND or by about 1.3% lower than the mid-market rate.
CAD exchange rate
The mid-market CAD exchange rate at the time was 17,507 VND for 1 Canadian Dollar, so the exchange rate offered at the bank (17,295 VND/CAD) was by 212 VND or by about 1.2% lower than the mid-market rate.
SGD exchange rate
The mid-market SGD exchange rate at during our visit was 17,028 VND for 1 Singapore Dollar, so the exchange rate offered by EximBank (16,667 VND/SGD) was by 361 VND or by about 2.1% lower than the mid-market rate.
CHF exchange rate
The mid-market CHF exchange rate at the time was 23,443 VND for 1 Swiss Franc, so the exchange rate offered in Hue (22,910 VND/CHF) was by 533 VND or by about 2.3% lower than the mid-market rate.
JPY exchange rate
The mid-market JPY exchange rate during our visit was 213 VND for 1 Japanese Yen, so the exchange rate offered by EximBank in Hue (207 VND/JPY) was by 6 VND or by about 2.8% lower than the mid-market rate.
THB exchange rate
The mid-market THB exchange rate at the time was 768 VND for 1 Thai Baht, so the exchange rate offered here (719 VND/THB) was by 49 VND or by about 6.4% lower than the mid-market rate.
Best currency exchange rate in Hue
Gold shops in Vietnam do not display currency exchange rates so every time you want to exchange currency there, you need to ask for the exchange rate.
We named Phú Cường gold shop as the best money changer in Hue for a reason as it was the place where we got the best exchange rate for our money. Located just a minute away from EximBank, the gold shop was giving 25,460 VND for 1 Euro (235 VND more than EximBank).
The best Euro exchange rate in Hue was only by 83 VND lower than the mid-market exchange rate on the day so we’ve lost only a bit more than 0.3% when exchanging money at Phú Cường gold shop. That was the lowest exchange margin we’ve got when exchanging Euro in Vietnam.
