Haiphong Bus 16C to Cat Hai for Cat Ba Cable Car & Ferry

Haiphong Bus 16C is one of the main Haiphong bus routes currently operating in Haiphong Province. If you want to use public transportation for getting from Cat Bi Airport (HPH) to Cat Ba Island, you can use Haiphong Bus 16B to get into the city and then change to bus 16C.

Taking a public bus might be not the most comfortable option, as the leg room on the bus is really limited and traveling with bulk luggage might be problematic.

Haiphong Bus 16C Route

The length of the bus route is 40 km and it can take about 1 hour 30 minutes for the bus to cover the entire route from Thuong Ly Bus Terminal to Cat Hai Island or vice versa.

Note! Pay attention that you might find conflicted information about this bus route online, as starting from 1 March 2024 the route was adjusted and now goes to Cat Ba Cable Car station and Dong Bai Ferry Terminal instead of going to Got Ferry Terminal on Cat Hai Island.

Haiphong Bus 16C can be used for traveling to Cat Ba from Haiphong in any way, as the route reaches Cat Ba Cable Car station and the ferry pier, where ferries to Cat Ba Island were moved recently. Therefore, you can choose to take the cable car (faster and better views) or the ferry (cheaper and more frequent) for reaching the island.

On another side, you can use Cat Ba Bus 14 for getting from the ferry terminal or cable car station to Cat Ba Town, which is the place, where majority of travelers choose to stay. 

Haiphong Bus 16C Tickets

Tickets for Haiphong Bus 16C can be bought for cash on board the bus. Bus ticket price is 15,000 VND per person. Children under 6 years old should be traveling for free.

Haiphong Bus 16C Timetable

The bus operating hours are the following:

  • from Thuong Ly Bus Station: from 05:00 to 18:00 daily
  • from Dong Bai Ferry Terminal: from 06:00 to 19:20 daily

There are 28 bus departures in each direction and buses depart every 30-45 minutes.

Pay attention that for the direction from Haiphong City to Cat Hai, the scheduled bus departures are from Thuong Ly, so departures from the center of Haiphong City (Haiphong Opera House area) should be about 10 minutes later than the departure time from Thuong Ly.

For the direction from Cat Hai to Haiphong City the bus departures are from Dong Bai Ferry Terminal, where ferries from Cat Ba Island arrive. Cat Ba Cable Car station is the next bus stop after the ferry pier so departures from there should be just a couple of minutes later.

However, if you're on a very tight schedule, don't rely too much on the bus timetable as there might be delays, depending on traffic.
