Alternative Quarantine (AQ), previously called Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ or ALSQ), is the list of quarantine hotels, located outside Bangkok. Hotels from other provinces that previously were included into the list of Alternative State Quarantine hotels now are classified in the list of Alternative Local Quarantine hotels.
Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ) is the process of quarantine at government-approved hotels in various provinces of Thailand at the traveler’s own expense.
Hotels in distant from Bangkok provinces together with hospitals are offering Alternative Quarantine packages for Thai and non-Thai nationality travelers returning from abroad. The requirements for this type of quarantine hotels in Thailand seem to be the same as for ASQ.
Before booking one of these ALQ hotels, make sure if your chosen ALQ (not ASQ) hotel will be accepted as availability to use them depends on the point of entry to Thailand, e.g. if you are flying to Bangkok, you can use ALQ in Chonburi province but not ALQ in Phuket.
Booking Quarantine Package Hotels
To make reservation of ALQ package, you can contact hotels directly. Part of quarantine hotels can now be booked online via Agoda but you must use special URL / links that separate quarantine packages from ordinary room offers that cannot be used when applying for COE.

Important note! In case of a positive COVID-19 test result you will be transferred to the hospital and will be responsible for all hospitalization costs. While most of COVID-19 insurance policies will cover your treatment if you will get sick with symptoms, your stay at the hospital in Thailand might be not covered if your case will be asymptomatic. TIP! Some AQ hotels do not accept credit card payments, others charge extra or use unsafe payment authorization methods so paying a deposit or full prepayment to hotel’s bank account might be a better option even if you don’t have a Thai bank account. For making payments to Thailand we recommend ‘Wise, formerly TransferWise’ as it uses the mid-market exchange rate and charges just a fraction of that banks charge for international transfers. Alternative Local Quarantine Hotels in Koh Samui / Surat Thani
There are currently 10 government-approved quarantine hotels that can be used for the process of quarantine in Koh Samui, the second largest island in Thailand. Koh Samui ALQ packages are offered for travelers arriving to Thailand via Koh Samui. However, all these approved Koh Samui quarantine hotels are yet to present their ALQ packages so hotel prices and features are yet to be announced.
Update! Most of the below listed Samui quarantine hotels are approved to provide Samui Plus hotel stay, which is a mandatory 7-night stay for vaccinated travelers entering Thailand without quarantine under Samui Plus scheme.
