As you might have found already, the information about what photo size is required when applying for Thai visa might be confusing. Let us to make this question clear as the required Thailand visa photo size depends on the type of visa you are planning to apply for because visa application forms used are different. These photo specifications are valid in 2025!

Thailand Visa Photo Size: Thai Visa Photo Specification

Thailand Visa Photo Size at Thai Embassy/Consulate

When applying for Single-Entry Tourist Visa, Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa, Transit Visa or any Non-Immigrant Visa at one of Thai embassies or consulates worldwide, the required Thailand visa photo size was 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. This Thai visa photo specification is set by the size of the field on the application form as 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm is the photo size that will perfectly fit on the usual Thailand Visa Application Form.

Depending on the embassy/consulate, you needed to submit one or two photos of 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm size. In some cases some of nationalities needed to submit more than 2 photos when applying not in their home countries but all this information can be found on the website of the specific Thai embassy or consulate.

Starting from 1 January 2025, all Thai embassies and consulates worldwide use Thailand E-Visa system to process all visa applications. When applying for Thailand visa online, you need to upload a digital copy of your passport-type photo with the following photograph specifications:

1. Your photo must show your entire head, from the top of your hair to the bottom of your chin. Your head height measured from the top of your head including the hair to the bottom of your chin must be around 70% of the photo's total height. Upload photo in a vertical orientation. Expression should be neutral and with your mouth closed.

2. Head orientation is important, so you should face directly toward the camera. Headgear, hat or earphone are not acceptable, except when used for religious reasons. They cannot however prevent a perfect view of the face in your Thailand visa photo.

3. Make sure your eyes are open in the photograph. If you are wearing spectacles ensure that flash is not coming on the eyeballs. If you have long hair, make sure that your hair does not cover your eyes.

4. The background behind you in the photo should be white. There should be no obstacles or any furniture behind.

5. Ensure that the image is clear without any blurriness and that your face is fully-lit and there are no distracting shadows across your face or in the background.

Where to make Thailand Visa photo?

At the airports in Thailand, where they are issuing Thailand Visa on Arrival, you can normally find a photo booth (at least at the largest ones) and get your photos done in few minutes for about 200 THB. On land border crossings finding such a service can be difficult.

When applying for Thai Visa Extension at Thailand Immigration Office in Bangkok, photos can also be made at the place. Situation might be less convenient at the smaller immigration offices around the country.

Thai embassies and consulates don’t provide photo service by themselves but it’s easy to find someone making them around the most popular ones such as Thai Embassy in Vientiane. In most cases it’s best to get your photos done in advance.
