Bangkok Chao Phraya River Boats
Thai Smile Boat is one more addition to the system of Bangkok public transportation, where water transport plays quite an important role.
Even if these boats are operating on the same part of the Chao Phraya River as the Chao Phraya Express Boat, Thai Smile Boat routes are a bit different and served by larger electric boats, providing more comfort on board. As Bangkok riverboats use the same piers, you can easily choose a preferred type of boat for your trip.
Bangkok cross-river ferries connect both banks of the Chao Phraya River in the Thai capital. They can be used in combination with Thai Smile Boat or other boats operating along the river in case you find yourself at the pier that is not on the route of the river boats.
As a tourist, you can also charter a boat and explore the city’s canals or join one of Bangkok river cruises and admire the city views from the river while enjoying dinner on the boat.
You can also use the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat, which lets you explore the attractions along the Chao Phraya River by hopping on and off the boats with a day pass.
Here you will find the most important information about the electric Bangkok riverboat service, Thai Smile Boat.
Thai Smile Boat Routes
The Thai Smile Boat service operates at around 20 piers along the Chao Phraya River, so it is not as widely available as the Chao Phraya Express Boat. However, the most important tourist attractions can be visited by using the electric Bangkok riverboat. The main pier on all Thai Smile Boat routes is the Central Pier, also known as Sathorn Pier. Sathorn Pier is conveniently connected with BTS Saphan Taksin station and can be easily reached from anywhere in Bangkok by using city trains.
In 2025, the City Line was extended, and now it's starting at Siam Charoen Nakhon Pier, but boats still make a stop at Sathorn Pier.
Starting from 5 January 2026, the Metro Line was reopened and extended the supply of electric boats on the Chao Phraya River.
Currently, there are 3 routes served by Thai Smile Boat:
- City Line (green one)
- Urban Line (purple one)
- Metro Line (blue one)
Traveling on the 3 boat routes and all Thai Smile Bus routes is covered by Thai Go Day Pass. You can choose from 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day pass.
