Don Mueang Airport (DMK), Bangkok’s second airport, is the main travel hub for domestic air travel and regional low-cost flights. In case you need Thai Baht on arrival, you can use ATM or Don Mueang Airport currency exchange service as money exchange here is offered by several DMK Airport money changers.

Don Mueang Airport Money Exchange

Withdrawing Thai Baht from ATM or exchanging foreign currency at money exchange counters are usually the best ways for getting local money at the airport. However, be noted that none of these options is cost-effective at Don Mueang International Airport (DMK).

If you're not comfortable with carrying a large amount of cash to exchange in Thailand but still want to get much better exchange rate on your payments and withdrawals than your regular bank card is offering, consider getting Wise Card that lets you spend abroad with the real exchange rate and works well in Thailand.

ATM at Don Mueang Airport

You will not have a problem finding an ATM at Don Mueang Airport, with the exception of the area before immigration. ATMs of all main Thai banks are easy to spot, and they are normally set in clusters so you can choose the bank to withdraw Thai Baht according to your liking. At Don Mueang Airport you can find ATMs of Kasikorn Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank, Krungsri Bank, and several other Thai banks.

ATM at Don Mueang Airport

Even if bringing a credit card and withdrawing cash from an ATM sounds like a safer option than bringing tons of cash in foreign currency, in Thailand it has a significant downside – all ATMs in the country charge international cards with an additional fee of 220 THB for every withdrawal. Add the fees of your home bank and currency exchange rate losses to this amount, and you will see that this option of getting local money in Thailand is by far not as attractive as in other countries.

If using an ATM is your only option for getting Thai Baht in Don Mueang Airport, it is best to withdraw the biggest amount possible. It will help you to lower your ATM fee losses, as a withdrawal of 1,000 THB and 20,000 THB costs the same.

Don Mueang Airport Money Exchange

Money exchange at the airport in Bangkok might be the best way to get Thai Baht when it comes to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), as it’s possible to find really good currency exchange rates at BKK Airport.

However, Don Mueang Airport money exchange is a completely different story, as foreign exchange rates here are far from good. The worst part of this is that all money changers at Don Mueang Airport offer exactly the same exchange rate, so there's no normal competition. Don’t waste your time trying to find a better deal at DMK Airport, as we already did it with no luck!

Don Mueang Airport Money Exchange

As Don Mueang Airport currency exchange rates are really bad, we wouldn't recommend exchanging here more money than you need for your first day in the city. In Bangkok you can easily get much better currency exchange rates, just check for the nearest to your location branch of Bangkok Super Rich.

If you need Thai Baht for paying your Visa on Arrival fee (at the moment it’s 2000 THB), you will find currency exchange booths of 3 banks on your way to Visa on Arrival department, just before immigration posts. All 3 currency exchange booths offer exactly the same rates, so choose any bank to your liking.

Don Mueang Airport money exchange at the arrival hall is no different even if you can find a row of money changers next to each other. Foreign exchange rates there are all the same and not better than anywhere else in the airport.

Therefore, we only recommend to exchange money at Don Mueang Airport just enough for all your first day expenses such as transportation to the city, first meal and so on.

SuperRich Don Mueang Airport

Contrary to Suvarnabhumi Airport, there’s no branch of the famous Bangkok money changer SuperRich at Don Mueang Airport.

However, currently there is a solution if you find yourself in Don Mueang Airport and want to get a foreign exchange rate that is better than offered by money changers at DMK airport. To get a fair currency exchange rate, you will need to leave the terminal building of Don Mueang Airport and walk a bit.

Nearby the airport, you can find not a SuperRich Don Mueang Airport branch but the currency exchange point of their competitor Happy Rich, which is also providing currency exchange service at Suvarnabhumi Airport in competition with SuperRich.

To find Happy Rich Don Mueang branch, you need to exit the airport via the skywalk connecting Don Mueang International Airport and Amari Hotel, cross the street and then go down the stairs or ramp to Don Mueang Railway Station.

Happy Rich Don Mueang is open daily, from 06:00 to 18:00.

Happy Rich Don Mueang branch

Another branch of Happy Rich is located next to SRT Red Line Don Mueang Station. It's suitable if you are taking train from the airport or arrive after 18:00, as this branch is open from 05:00 to 22:00.

Currency exchange rates at Happy Rich Don Mueang are not the best in town, as even their own Suvarnabhumi branch is offering exchange rates that are 0.10 THB/USD, 0.10 THB/EUR, 0.10 THB/GBP, 0.10 THB/CHF, and 0.10 THB/AUD higher. However, foreign exchange rates here are much better than those offered by the banks at Don Mueang Airport, as at Happy Rich Don Mueang you can expect to get around 3-4% more for your money.

If you are not keen on walking out from the airport terminal building to look for a fair currency exchange rate, consider getting a Wise Card before your trip so you could get foreign exchange rates that are better than the ones offered by banks at DMK Airport and even money changers nearby.

Tips

Book a discounted Thailand SIM card and pick it up at the airport: [SALE] SIM Card for Thailand. By booking it online, you won't need Thai Baht at the airport for getting connected. Otherwise, if your mobile phone is eSIM compatible, you can get eSIM Thailand by instant email delivery and use it right after landing in Bangkok.

If you have connecting flights at different airports in Bangkok, use the free shuttle bus between BKK and DMK airports and exchange your money at Suvarnabhumi Airport currency exchange, not Don Mueang Airport.

Use Don Mueang Airport buses for cheap and easy transportation from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok.

For a hassle-free trip from the airport into the city, book DMK Airport private transfer online, and you won't need to exchange currency at the airport at a very low rate, as your transportation will be fully paid.

Depending on your travel plans, you might find staying in the Don Mueang area convenient. What are other good areas to stay in Bangkok? The answer can be found in the guide to Bangkok's best areas.
